iZotope has released Ozone 8 & Neutron 2, new versions of their plug-in tools for mastering and mixing.
Ozone 8 now features machine learning technology with the introduction of Master Assistant, allowing you to “reach an optimal starting point for your master in seconds”. Version 8 also includes Track Referencing, a Spectral Shaper to tame problematic frequencies, improved signal processing, and refinements to the user interface and workflow.
Neutron 2 includes new signal processing, including a Gate with Hysteresis for a smoother gating response, and improvements to Track Assistant and Neutrino modes to help you get to a better starting point. Neutron 2 also features an intuitive Visual Mixer that allows you to mix on a soundstage by controlling pan, gain, and width of audio busses. The new Mix Tap plug-in now allows you to route any track to the Tonal Balance Control plug-in, Visual Mixer, and Masking Meter, even if you are not using any iZotope plug-ins.
Bringing these two powerful products together is a new plug-in called Tonal Balance Control. This visual analysis tool measures the distribution of energy across frequencies, comparing your audio to targets created from analysis of tens of thousands of commercially available tracks spanning a variety of musical styles to help you achieve better tonal balance. Tonal Balance Control can also compare your audio to a custom upload to inform how you shape its sonic profile and across listening environments.
PMC have introduced “result6”, a two-way active loudspeaker that combines all the attributes for which the company’spro reference monitors are internationally renowned, priced at £1995 (ex VAT) $2950 per pair. The two-way design features a 27mm soft-dome tweeter with dispersion grille and a mid/bass unit composed of a doped natural fibre, both custom-designed for the result6. The LF driver was developed using a laser-based measurement system, recently introduced into the design process at PMC, which determines the electromechanical performance of the driver with extreme accuracy and allows the bass driver to be better integrated with the Advanced Transmission Line — the proprietary bass-loading system at the heart of all PMC products. The built-in dual amplifiers supply 65W and 100W of power to the HF and LF drivers.
Focusrite has unveiled the new Red 16Line, the first interface to combine Pro Tools | HD and Thunderbolt 3. The new Red 16Line is a 64-in/64-out Pro Tools | HD and dual Thunderbolt 3 audio interface with ultra-low latency A-D/D-A conversion, Red Evolution mic preamps, up to 121dB dynamic range, ultra-low round trip latency, and expansion over Ethernet for networked audio. Since Red 16Line provides both DigiLink connectors and Thunderbolt™ connections, its now easier than ever to switch from Pro Tools | HD to a second DAW, without the need to reconfigure option cards in the interface. Simply change the host mode either in the remote control software, or on the device front panel and change DAWs in seconds.
Antelope Audio has announced two modelling microphones: the Edge ($799) Dual-Capsule Large Diaphragm Modeling Microphone and Verge ($149) small-diaphragm condenser mic (for Antelope Interfaces)
Antelope Audio’s Accusonic 3D Modeling will transform the Edge Dual Capsule Large Diaphragm Microphone into several vintage replicas giving you complete control over proximity effect, off-axis response and even allow you to change polar patterns during or after recording. You can choose from a collection of classic expensive microphones and record the results as you monitor live, bringing out a musician’s best possible performance. The FPGA Modeling Engine then allows for Mic Preamp Modeling, Vintage Compressors & EQ’s and even Reverb all in real time for a true hardware performance experience.
An included cable splits the signal into two outputs, which are perfectly matched and calibrated for the Accusonic preamps inside Antelope’s Discrete Interfaces and for the Discrete Preamp Modeling inside their FPGA Equipped units. In addition to the C12/C12VR, Edge models several Tube and FET classics, such as U47,U67, U87, M49, M149, UMB57, TLM103, c414, ELA M251, AK47, C800G, and ribbon favorites R122 and 4038.
